Book Review: Hunwick's Egg

We read Elijah a story at bed time every night. He has so many books! We love reading to him and he really seems to enjoy it too. We've recently collected the the mini-books that came for $1.80 with the Telegraph. They are so lovely and I've really loved reading them to Elijah.

Having all of these new books gave me an idea; book reviews!

Tonight I read Hunwick's Egg:

"When a mysterious egg appears outside Hunwick's burrow, no one is certain what to think. And when it doesn't hatch right away, everyone is even more bewildered. Everyone, that is, but Hunwick. For Hunwick understands the egg. It is his friend. And he is the only one who knows its secret."

I often tear up when reading to Elijah. Don't ask me why, I have no clue!  Tonight's story was no different and made me choke up a little. Written by fantastic Australian Author Mem Fox With stunning Australiana styled illustrations by Pamela Lofts, this is a gorgeous book, with the moral of unconditional love. Such an important thing to teach our children.

I will definitely be reading this to Elijah many more times as he gets older and would absolutely recommend it :)

I haven't blogged in so long! Again! Someone hand me some motivation! :/

So much has happened, I have no idea where to even start.

I was made redundant, again... I'm actually not sure if I mentioned it when it happened so here's the back-story: While I was off on leave after Elijah was born, I was advised that the place I worked was closing down and 150+ people were being laid off... I was very fortunate to be offered a job working for some friends soon after and I've been working there since September. Now they have decided to close the business and I've technically unemployed since the end of February :( I say 'technically' because thankfully, I managed to line up a new job before I finished up, but it doesn't start until April. I'm taking the opportunity to spend my days playing with my son, take naps, wean off the awful anti-anxiety meds I've been on and get some sewing projects done (I'm making a quiet book for Elijah and will blog about it if anyone would like me to?)

Elijah is so so big and so strong now! He's 7 1/2 months old and such a determined little boy. He began crawling properly just a couple of days after he reached 7 months, he can really move! He's also pulling himself up on everything that he can; the couch, us, his cot, the front door, the walls! He's also 'furniture walking' which blew me away at first! I didn't expect that just yet.

He's loving swimming lesions, and we have been to a few play groups. He's still a great eater and frequently sleeps through the night. He's got two teeth and I think his dimples are getting more prominent. His favourite shows are Charley Bear and Glee hehe. He's playing more 'deliberately' now, showing preference for particular toys, and kissing his dolly :) He gives us kisses now too, which absolutely melts me! (Sometimes the kisses are followed by raspberries, or teeth but I'm not complaining!)

Stay tuned for tomorrow's Wordless Wednesday - it's a bit cute ;)

Don't forget we're on twitter, @2aussiemammas - I'm a much more frequent tweeter than blogger ;)
