Eleven Facts:

1. I have only just recently started driving, I got my P’s this year – I’m 28 :P

2. I’m the eldest of four children, which I think is the closest thing to being a mother you can be.

3. When I was young and silly, I fell pregnant with twins – I lost them both and a fallopian tube in the process. They would be 10 this year.

4. I am very afraid of submarines; even just images of them make me go tight in the chest.

5.  I think I am addicted to my iPhone.

6. I wake up every day full of gratitude, which is a far cry from who I used to be

7. I procrastinate way too much – which I find equally annoying as my wife does ;)

8. I have no contact with either of my parents.

9. I was raised by my Grandmother.

10. I have a dog named Thor, a cat named Sid, a canary named Bird and an axolotl named Gully.

11. I have a massive issue saying the “L” word, especially to those I love the most,  although sometimes I’m so full of love I feel as though I could burst!

Eleven Responses:

  1. As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up? Catwoman!
  2. Who was your first big crush? Aaahhh that would be Jessie C when I was 14. I couldn’t even speak to her!
  3. Do you have a role model? If you do, who are they and why? I don’t really have a role model. I have in the past, but eventually they prove they’re merely human and lose their status ;)
  4. If you won lotto, what would be the first thing you’d spend the money on? Buy a house, then buy a few other people houses. Then holidays and all the usual stuff.
  5. Are you a cat person or a dog person? Dog person. But really, just an animal person.
  6. What is one skill you wish you had? I wish my hands were as artistic as my mind.
  7. Most embarrassing moment? I don’t really get embarrassed, so I’m not sure?
  8. Favourite toy as a child? Probably my Kirby – a teddy that my Grandmother brought for me when I was born.
  9. If you could invite any 3 people (dead or alive) to dinner who would it be? Jim Morrison, Johnny Depp and Angelina Jolie ;)
  10. What is your biggest fear? Now that I’m a mum, my biggest fear is something happening to Elijah.
  11. Pepsi or Coca Cola? Either, I’m not fussy.

Life is grand

Since I last blogged, we have had a few fun 'firsts', a visit from Grandma, made new friends and experienced lots of the usual daily joys like being peed on, puked on and cleaning up poop :)

First was a weekend visit from Elijah's Grandma. It was so lovely to get to see them bond. They have met before (if you remember, she stayed with us when he was born) but now that he is bigger, they got to interact and play. She read him bed time stories, fed him his bottle and had lots of Grandma snuggles.

He even got in the Movember spirit ;)

We've enjoyed a day trip up the coast to meet up with friends that have just gotten engaged. We had a lovely lunch and a great catch up while they fawned all over Elijah, as Aunties do. They have asked J to be their 'head suit' i.e Best Man and Elijah will be a page boy! I can't WAIT to see them in their suits together! I'm gonna die of cuteness overload, I'm sure of it!

While we were there, we took the opportunity to take Elijah to the beach for the first time. He loved it! He grinned and giggled and was fascinated by the waves. We didn't go for a swim but we did put his feet in the water for minute which he thought was fantastic!

Elijah is going well with formula feeding and although it wasn't in our plan, J and I are doing ok with it too. J has had no issues with drying her milk up, thank goodness. We can now space his feeds out to the 4 hour mark, which was impossible to do before and he guzzles his 180ml in no time flat! He's also loving his baby cereal in the morning, but as soon as it goes cold, watch out! He'll let you know he's not happy about it ;)

I'm loving being a mummy, so much. It has it's moments but I wake up each morning happy and grateful and love coming home from work to my beautiful wife and son each day. Life is grand.

So much other stuff has happened, so stay tuned!

Proud mamma Monday!

Since I last checked in there have been two major developments in our little world.

Do you want the good news or the bad news first?

Hmmm let's start with the bad news;

We have had to stop breast feeding, well, J has... I've had to be pretty useless throughout the whole process.

J got her first period since falling pregnant about a month ago, which affected her milk supply and also appeared to affect what milk there was as Elijah became disinterested... Not long after that J and Elijah were unwell - which made it very hard for Elijah to feed and seemed to affect her milk supply even further. We decided to supplement feed (one bottle a day to begin with) because we were concerned he wasn't getting what he needed.

Long story short, her milk supply is pretty much gone and we have had to move to formula.

And on to the good news! Elijah rolled over! Clever little guy, he is. I'm so proud of our little man :D

I missed his first roll, which sucks big-time. I had a little teary when J told me but that night, she showed me a video and explained that she kind of missed it too - they were at play group and he decided to do it just as J turned to talk to another mum, cheeky little boy!

Since then, he has not stopped! The morning starts with his usual play mat time which is now 'roll over and get the shits because I can't roll back' time hehe

Proud Mamma Monday

This week has been so hard. Poor Elijah caught his first cold and has been very unwell, and to make matters worse, J has caught it from him, poor petal :(

At first we thought he was out if sorts because he hadn't pooped in about 10 days, but a quick trip to the Dr had us reassured that he wasn't constipated, just didn't need to poop (and my god did he rectify that situation a couple of days later!!!)

He's gone back to waking every couple of hours, his eyes all weepy and crusty, his little nose all blocked up. I've done my best to be at the ready with a warm facecloth, the snot sucker and a cuddle.

This week I'm so proud of my boy for being strong and still being able to crack a smile at his mums. I'm also very proud of us for getting through the week, it was HARD!

Proud Mamma Monday

Another week beginning already!

Elijah was 14 weeks old yesterday and he's just getting more and more interested in the world around him and what his body can do.

He's no longer content to just sleep when we go on outings, he wants to be up and looks at everything. He loves to smile and coo at anyone that glances his way, and most people do ;)

He's so fascinated by his own hands and feet right now, grabbing at things and holding things. He tries to hold his bottle now, and can even do it for a few moments. I'm so proud! My clever little Elijah :)

I'm also proud of J and I this week! We went out for the first time!!! It was so difficult to leave my boy, but I had such a lovely time with my wifey. We had a deeeelish dinner at a local restaurant. I thoroughly enjoyed it, but it was so lovely to come home (less than an hour and a half after leaving hehehe) to find him sound asleep, just as we'd left him.

I'm absolutely LOVING this mummy gig, if its not obvious ;)

Proud Mamma Monday

This week has been interesting...

Poor bubba is teething (not so much actually cutting teeth as just being in pain from sore gummies) this equates to a very grumbly baby and two tired mums, J more so than me, because she's the milky mum and is the one that has been up at all hours with him.

It's so hard to watch our little one in pain :( We have tried teething toys (which work, but as he can't hold them himself very well, they're not really that effective), he prefers his hands or ours to much down on (it hurts too! He's got some jaw strength!) We finally resorted to baby Panadol the other day, which gave him some relief. We don't like the thought of too much medication, but a little to take the edge off did the trick.

When he's not in pain, he's still the happy, grinny boy we know and love =D and just as clever as ever! Learning new things every day. He's become fascinate by his own hands and splashing around in the bath is his new favourite thing to do.

This week, I'm most proud that he is big and strong enough to sit up in his bumbo chair - look at him!!!

Proud Mamma Monday

I am in awe of this little guy and the amazing things he can do...

Now 12 weeks old, Elijah is bringing everything to his mouth. I'm sure that the day will come when I kick myself for saying this, but it makes me proud :) He's right on track and even if it means the days of everything being covered in dribble are on their way, it's fantastic :)

He's also trying SO hard to roll over, it's just that darn arm keeps getting in the way :p

Proud Mamma Monday

Hi everyone! Welcome to the first Proud Mamma Monday :)

Today my amazing little boy has decided he's a big boy and we are not sure we're ready!!!

Let me explain...

We have had Elijah sleeping in a bassinet beside our bed since we brought him home all those weeks ago... Until today...

He has been getting more boisterous with his kicking and playing and the bassinet has begun rocking a little too much for our liking. We have been discussing when the right time would be to move him to his cot (Which isn in his room!!! As in not in our room!!)

We decided this morning to move his day sleeps to his cot, just to see how he goes and ease our way into moving him into his own room permanently. I am so proud of my beautiful boy, he went exceptionally well! The first nap was a little unsettled but the last nap of the day was awesome! He woke a little, had a kick and a play then settled himself back to sleep! (Which he hasn't really even done in his bassinet)

We thought it would take him days to become comfortable but because he did so well, we had a decision to make... and it was so hard! So much harder than I thought it would be...

After some uncertainty and a cuddle we decided to give him the opportunity to try tonight's sleep in there too.

Although this is a very hard transition for his mums, I couldn't be more proud. He's in there right now. In his big boy cot in his own room... My clever boy :)

I hope it goes well, wish me luck! Hopefully he has a good nights sleep (I have a feeling his mums won't be :p)

We're on Twitter!

Sooooo, this newborn thing doesn't leave a lot of time for blogging. Kudos to all the mums that have been able to keep it up!

I have made a (loose) commitment to blog at least once a month but have created a twitter account for anyone that would like to follow along (and see looooooots of pictures of the cutest baby in Australia, maybe even the world! Haha)

Find me on twitter: @2aussiemammas

While I'm here, I'd better leave a quick update :)

Our boy is now 8 weeks, 1 day old! He's still a very good boy, but has more 'personality' these days ;) He loves his baths and showers.

He's still a good eater, LOVES his food. He's started sleeping 6-7 hours straight during the night but still isn't keen on sleeping thought the day. He loves 'dancing', especially to P!INK and Wonky Donkey :D

He's started 'swatting' at his toys on his play mat. He's moved from 0000 to 000 clothes...

What else? Hmmm. There's so much more but I'm drawing a blank!

Promise I'll try to blog more regularly, in the mean time don't forget to follow us in twitter!!
